The unpretentious little town of Villars is quite idyllic and unbeknown to a wide skiing community, making it very comfortable. It is mainly known for its family-oriented feel, and its neighbouring community of Gryon is only 4 km away, enabling you to venture into a second town should you feel the need.
The Villars area has skiing for every type of skiing, which is why it is a prime target for family ski trips. It has easy access onto the mountain, with separate gondolas starting in different areas in town. One rises from the edge of the village up to the Roc d’Orsay (2000m), and another from Barboleuse heads up to Les Chaux (1750m). It’s also easy to work your way over to Les Diablerets, from where lifts serve the Scex Rouge and Diablerets Glacier.
Villars is a great a location year-round, with plenty to do in both the summer and winter seasons. Along with great skiing, there is mountain hiking, various excursions (i.e. to the zoo, the Matterhorn, St-Léonard's underground lake, Jungfraujoch, and Glacier 3000), and winter sports activities to make your time in the snow even more family-friendly. When summer hits, similar excursions and hiking can be done, as well as various summer sports like rock climbing, golfing, paragliding, and mountain biking.
