Ski the best from Tignes Les Brevieres
By common consent, the Espace Killy is one of the finest and most extensive ski areas in the world: two glaciers, 300 kms of piste, 90 ski lifts, a top altitude of 3450m, and an exemplary snow record, making it a first-class destination for skiers of all standards throughout the season.
Access to this winter sports paradise is either from the bustling main resorts of Val d'Isere or Tignes. But if you don't like noisy crowds and prefer a more traditional style of resort, the best option is Tignes Les Brevieres, a charmingly original Savoyarde mountain village that offers direct lift access into the Espace Killy.
It's an ideal base for skiing. Without leaving this pretty village, you can buy your lift pass, hire equipment, organise ski lessons and there is a full range of shops, bars and restaurants - in fact, everything you need for a fabulous ski holiday is available right here, in a picture-postcard Alpine village complete with traditional stone farmhouses, wooden chalets and even the odd cow!
For experienced skiers, the Espace Killy needs no introduction. It is acknowledged as one of the finest ski areas in the world. For beginners, there are gentle nursery slopes at Tignes Les Brevieres as well as La Daille, Tignes and Val d'Isere itself. Intermediates are spoilt for choice, with 60 blue runs and 35 reds. Experts can test themselves on the 16 black runs or, with the help of a guide, make fresh tracks off-piste.
The maximum skiable vertical drop of 1,900m is one of the largest in the world and the height of the lowest lift at 1,550m is sufficient to ensure top-to-bottom skiing during the entire season. On the rare occasions when snow is in short supply, the 200+ snow cannons ensure you can ski to the villages.
Few resorts in Europe have achieved Espace Killy's level of efficiency in moving people up and around the mountains. There are two ski passes. The Espace Killy pass opens the door to a vast network of lifts that is constantly being refined to maximise snow time € and minimise queueing. It also includes a day's skiing in nearby resorts such as La Plagne and Les Arcs. The Super Tignes pass covers approximately half the area (including the Tignes Les Brevieres sector), and offers an alternative for people who are happy to enjoy themselves in the Tignes sector.
Two lifts - a telecabine and a chairlift - serve Tignes Les Brevieres. The bubble is best for reaching the varied slopes below the Aiguille Percee. The chair enables less experienced skiers to play on the lower slopes above Tignes Les Boisses. Either way, ski access to the Espace Killy is easy and convenient.
Guests with their own car can drive to either Val d'Isere or the main Tignes resort in about a quarter of an hour. Depending on their workload, our own resort staff may be able to ferry guests to Val or Tignes at certain times of the day. Alternatively, local taxis are available from Tignes Les Brevieres at a reasonable price.
