Lying in the heart of the Vanoise national park, a top-class Olympic site, Val d'Isere is undoubtedly one of the most highly regarded ski resorts in France and was the setting of the prestigious Men's Olympic Downhill Competition in 1992. Once an 11th century farming village, it first opened its doors to skiers in 1932. The resort has long since spread high alongside the river Isere to three contrasting villages: the bustling Olympic town centre of Val Village, the futuristic La Daille, and the sleepy hamlet of le Fornet.

It is one of the world's best resorts for experts and for confident intermediates, as well as having good facilities for beginners, with a wide choice of ski schools. Val d'Isere and Tignes together make up the huge Espace Killy, with 300km of piste and lots of accessible off-piste runs. The high altitude of most slopes means that snow is pretty much guaranteed all season long.

For a high altitude resort, Val d'Isere is extremely lively and bustling. It boasts a fantastic apres ski scene, with countless stylish bars and restaurants, delightful bistros and a host of prestigious boutiques. Events such as torch lit descents and theme nights are enjoyed throughout the season.

The village has not lost any of the unique character and charm of its past, as can be seen by its narrow pedestrianised streets lined with archways, traditional stone houses and enchanting 16th century church.
