Situated in the Haute Alps and increasingly popular with the British market, Serre Chevalier is the collective term for thirteen villages that lie along the valley from Grenoble to Gap. The three main villages are Monêtier Les Bains, Villeneuve and Chantemerle, leading to Briançon, which is not just a ski resort but a one of the highest French towns located as it is at 1326m. The town has a population of over 13,000 inhabitants and attracts a lot of tourists all year round: thanks to the old part of the fortified town, it is part of the World Heritage monument of UNESCO. This historical town has also featured as the mountain stage for the Tour De France. Serre Chevalier boasts an amazing 300 days of sunshine a year and accordingly functions as a year-round resort. The ski area is the fourth largest in France with 250kms of high altitude skiing up to 2830m. The ski area is managed and run by Compagnie Des Alpes who are responsible for the spectacular rise of La Plagne, Les Arcs and the creation of the massive Paradiski ski area.
