Valmorel is one of the prettiest of the modern ski resorts, carefully and sympathetically designed to reflect traditional Savoyard living and providing a bustling, pedestrianised village full of intimate restaurants, cosy bars and boutiques, providing the ideal base for your winter holiday. It is one of the last truly French resorts in the Alps, boasting a friendly and welcoming local population, and direct access to the slopes.
The ski area itself comprises 150 km of slopes, extending as far as St Francois Longchamp, which together with Valmorel, makes up the Grand Domaine ski area. For intermediates, there are many long runs at high altitude and pretty pine forested paths, whilst testing black runs and extensive off-piste skiing will challenge the more advanced. There is also a separate beginner’s ski area close to the village, several easily reached green runs, and a dedicated learning area for snowboarders. Covering an altitude of 1400m up to 2500m, the slopes are North facing, to ensure maximum snow coverage throughout the season.
In addition, Courchevel in the world famous Three Valleys resort, is just 40 minutes’ drive away, within easy reach for a day trip, for skiers wanting to try out other resorts in the area.
There is continual investment into the lift and terrain infrastructure. With the current development (see property in Valmorel) estimated to add 10% to the normal number of skiers, extra capacity is being built, to accommodate the bigger volume. This will add value to the resort and enhance skiers’ experience of this fabulous and largely undiscovered ski area.
