Les Houches is a village full of local and cultural charm just 6km from Chamonix; the birthplace of recreational skiing. It is excellently linked to Chamonix by a frequent bus service and is only 1 hour’s drive from Geneva airport (there is also a good bus service linking the village to the airport!)There are various traditional restaurants and bars in the village as well as other amenities. For a livelier après-ski scene however, Chamonix offers a notoriously wide range of activities.
The Les Houches skiing area is part of the Mont Blanc skiing domain which incorporates such resorts as Argentière, St Gervias, Les Contamines, Megève and Praz sur Arly. These, along with Les Houches, are all covered by the Chamonix ski pass. It offers the biggest single area of pistes in the Chamonix valley and also hosts regular international skiing events. The region is also home to the world cup downhill course and the training ground for the French National Ski Team! There is great skiing for novices and intermediates alike with exceptional skiing both on and off piste just up the valley and plenty of scope for extreme skiing. The cable car ride to the top of the Aiguille de Midi at a huge height of 3842m and the 24km ski down the Vallée Blanche glacier is an unforgettable experience. When on the slopes, the skiing is made all the more enjoyable by the incredibly attractive views and the enticingly priced mountain restaurants which are a lot cheaper than many other eateries in the popular Chamonix valley region.
