Mont Tremblant has been voted the "best ski resort in North Eastern America" for eleven years running by Ski Magazine for its combination of excellent skiing on well groomed slopes, luxury slope side accommodation and great après-ski offering owners, guests and residents a first-class stay in the award winning resort.
The Skiing
Tremblant is an excellent family resort with a wide range of well prepared slopes for all ages and levels, where beginners and children are very well catered for with an abundance of green and blue slopes through pleasantly wooded terrain. The ski school at Tremblant is also fantastic, with friendly and helpful instructors. Tremblant has two snowboard parks, one of which has an Olympic calibre half pipe as well as 65km of cross country trails offering superb views. The ski season generally runs from late November to mid April and with a total of 870 snow making cannons, the snow making facilities are excellent should the weather conditions not always be perfect. Tremblant is the ideal all year round resort and offers a wide variety of activities throughout the year, from dog sledging, snowshoeing and ice skating in winter to hiking, biking, waterskiing, rafting and golf in summer.
Tremblant’s Neighbourhoods
Tremblant has several distinct neighbourhoods: The Pedestrian Village, Le Domaine du Geant and Le Domaine de la Foret with the Domaine Nansen a little further out. Almost all accommodation in Tremblant offers ski-in ski-out access and the heated gondola lift runs from the bottom of the slopes. The pedestrian village has attractive cobbled streets, lined with a wide range of stylish boutiques, patisseries and cafes, après-ski is also good with a variety of restaurants and bars, ranging from traditional American to Japanese food and high-end dining and offering something to suit all budgets.
For those who prefer to be a little further away from the hustle and bustle of the resort centre but within a short walk of the centre's amenities, Le Domaine du Geant is ideal. Properties here border the greens and fairways of the Geant golf course, so are perfect for golf enthusiasts and also offer spectacular views of the ski trails and the forest.
Le Domaine de la Foret has a more secluded location in the heart of the forest, ideal for nature lovers and those who prefer a high level of privacy. Access to the both the slopes and the resort centre is however easy.
Over on the north side of the mountain receiving the morning sun, the Versant Soleil is now completing construction with the first residences opened in summer 2007 which will feature six hotels totaling 1,500 condo-hotel units, including one 500-room hotel and a 200-room luxury spa hotel, a multifunctional convention centre, boutiques and restaurants, a park, lake and new chairlifts. Versant Soleil will continue to shine with dazzling new developments, including ski terrain expansion, a direct connection between Versant Soleil and the South Village with the village to village gondola, and construction of a casino which is scheduled for opening in 2008.
History
The ski resort of Tremblant first began to take shape in 1938, when Joe Ryan, an eccentric Philadelphia millionaire, visited Tremblant with his wife Mary. He soon saw Tremblant's vast potential and wanted to make the mountain, lake and views available to all. With the assistance of the local priest, Cure Hector Deslauriers, the resort began to take form.
The resort was bought by Intrawest, North America's leading 4-season resort developer and operator in 1991. Since then, close to $1 billion has been invested in the creation of this spectacular world-class resort, where luxury accommodation, stylish boutiques and cafes line the quaint pedestrian streets of the resort village.
Easy Access
With daily flights from London to Montreal of less than seven hours and a short transfer time of just over an hour to reach the resort, Tremblant is very convenient and is an increasingly popular destination for the British. With the introduction of Zoom airlines, the first transatlantic low-cost airline, Tremblant has become as easily accessible as many of the European ski resorts, with weekly flights from Gatwick to Montreal for very reasonable prices.
Future development
The resort developer projects that over CAN$1 Billion will be invested over the next 7-10 years, with an expected increase in annual visitors to over 4.5million per year, as the resort further matures.
